Background

The Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) is a systematic process for identifying, analyzing and prioritizing community health needs and creating a strategic action plan.

The CHNA is a unique and holistic evaluation of the City’s health and well-being. Initial findings from the assessment were presented to Dublin City Council on May 20, 2024. Use the Tell Dublin webpage to view the presentation.

The Strategic Action Plan will leverage the assessment results to develop recommendations that improve community health.

In early 2024, an Advisory Committee composed of the City of Dublin, Washington Township, Ohio State University, OhioHealth, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Mt. Carmel Health System, mental health care providers, Dublin City Schools and a variety of social service organizations met to review the report and vote on the priority health needs to focus on throughout the Strategic Action Plan process.

The working group to identify priority needs was identified as:

Community Connections — a desire to strengthen the sense of community. According to the representative survey, 43% of Dublin residents feel they belong in Dublin only moderately well, slightly well, or not well at all and 75% feel only moderately connected, slightly connected or not connected at all to their neighbors.

Youth Behavioral Health — create a collective-impact initiative focused on providing information to parents of Dublin youth. According to the qualitative research, adult and youth residents are concerned about youth mental health. The COVID-19 pandemic pressure to succeed/social comparisons contribute to declining mental health. There are also concerns about substance misuse among youth.

Healthcare Navigation — develop a centralized source of health care access information for Dublin residents. It was found that 16% of residents had difficulty getting physical or dental healthcare in the past year, and 15% of residents had difficulty getting mental healthcare in the past year.

Transportation — more reliable transportation. Research indicated that Dublin residents have challenges getting transportation for healthcare purposes, activities, or meeting basic needs.

Key Assessment Findings

Timeline

The Strategic Action Plan goes to Dublin City Council in Q1 of 2025. Stay tuned for the final plan.
